Jeff, who lives at home is a rare gem

Going into this film i had a little bit of a bad feeling due to the nature of the last Duplass brothers film i had watched Cyrus which was sold to me as a fun slacker comedy with Jonah Hill and John .c. Reilly and ended up being nonsense in the plainest sense. Whereas that was nonsense this was pure magic in the way that the brothers interact and go through the story played by Jason Segel (Jeff) is a 30 year old slacker living in his mothers basement with a unffilled destiny that hasn't come to him yet his brother Ed Helms (Pat) playing his best role to date as his dick brother who is having marital problems with wife Judy Greer (two and a half men) whom is being unfaithful and so a madcap ride begins and ends in dramatic conclusion.

The real winner in this movie is the un-expecting audience due to its unreal storyline made real by the directors , i can't speak highly enough of how the have the brotherly dynamic down to the ground and brings a smile to my face really. Every life is important an does have meaning is you look you it is what i take from this movie and i urge you to watch it and soon as you can.

On a much lighter not i wish to thank the actors Helms and Segel for a rather enjoyable film that nearly made me cry at the end...nearly (by the way i have ignored the other story with Susan Surandon for the main fact i did not get it but still was well acted)

50/50 - An Oscar contender?

Hello readers,



                           What should make an Oscar contender? Should it be how pretentious it is , or in fact how I affects the audience to show feeling and to take something away from the movie. The movie in question is that of 50/50 , with no Oscar buzz around it and more buzz being heaped upon movies like the 'artist' (a French comedian who keeps whining about his life) and the tree of life ( a two and half hour aftershave commercial). How am I a 22 year normal guy supposed to connect with these films. With 50 50 I really did I was crying my eyes out at the end.


'Inspired by personal experiences, 50/50 is an original story about friendship, love, survival and finding humor in unlikely places. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star as best friends whose lives are changed by a cancer diagnosis'.

Watching this Movie is like realizing your own mortality and accepting it within 90 minutes of film. The Movie struck a tone in the trailer as a Goofballs take on a cancer sufferer , and by casting Seth Rogen as a supporting character did nothing to allay these fears , but watching the actual movie and seeing him being the goofball is needed for comedic relief , he serves as a protector for Adam and is truly a great friend Adam(Gordon-levitt) needs to get through the struggle. 


This film does not play down what Adam is going through and rather explains that not everyone gets better and that by saying 'your going to be alright' or ' its normal for you to feel that way is B****hit' its perfectly displayed by the Rachel the therapist (Kendrick) a clueless newbie to the profession , but she learns to be affectionate and not sugar coat anything but rather tell it like it is.  


The film is hinged upon one role that of Joseph Gordon-Levitt next seen in Batman , you can really see why a man like Christopher Nolan who taken an interest in him much like he has with Christian bale and Tom hardy , he see a true commitment to acting and putting your body and mind into a character fully means living breathing it. You can see the pain and frustration in his eyes that why is this happening to me IM 27 and don't smoke or drink WHY ME! And you sympathetic and feel you own mortal with him , no spoilers but his seen before going into the operating theatre is the most ive cried at a movie , it really hit home how vunuerable we all are. 


So here is my though that i am passing onto you , a film like this is more socially , economically and mentally close to people than a tree of life or an The artist . why does the board refuse to loom at it! 


This film carries all the factors to have Barlington's seal of recommendation!!!!!! ( Just for shaving his head what an artist)

A Debate ? Whats better Hot tub time machine or The hangover ?

Hi Readers, This will be short and comment with your thoughts!

Me personally I have a split opinion on this on the main part as both movies are awesome from the script the actors and the re-watch ability. 

The scripts are great, both about getting wasted and going through the funny consequences, but within the hangover I was out of breath by the end of it, m side was hurting so much with hot tub time I laughed throughout although never nearly died watching it. 

So round one to The Hangover DING DING! 

The actors is the split decision so I show the points decision on each with four seperate bouts 

Craig Robinson v Ed Helms = As in the office both are funny but in hot tub time machine Nick 'Agnew' Webber is by far funnier than Stu who by the end of the movie is petty annoying and smug (I wish I could pull heather graham) so its ends up 8-6 in favour of Craig

Rob Croddry v Zach Galifinakis = This I wish I could fight for rob(as i love Children's Hospital) but although he is hilarious and so funny, but Alan is retarded and possibly the funniest character I have ever seen in a movie, the way he always comes up with memorable lines like ' not at the table Carlos ' I could not stop crying (Baby is so funny) So this goes to Zach 10- 7 

Carl Duke v Justin Bartha = This is no contest, main fact is Justin is not in the movie and a bit to straight to be funny and I know all the wildcards cant be funny but ever since watching Greek and Sex Drive Carl duke has been in my eyeline to hit stardom big time and in this movie he steps up to the mark with being the voice of reason and also the voice of sanity compared to Rob Corddry who is mental, so the round goes to Carl Duke 10-7

Finally the two leading men of the movies and basically two of my favourite leading men previous to both movies love Bradley cooper in Wedding crashers and John Cusack in Grosse point blank , so not bias what so ever in this . Both play the role with such convincing actions I was sucked into the movie and found myself wanting to be there. With Phil (brad) he is the one who wants to escape his life and comes up with the funniest line in the movie 'PAGING DOCTOR FAGGOT’, but john Cusack has this knack of better psychical comedic acting and playing the sarcastic friend down to a tee so this has to be a tie at 8-8 

33 HTTM - Hangover 33 (I actually did not think I would come out in a tie) so on supporting cast it has to go to HTTM its got CHEVY CHASE in it.

Round three is re watchabilty and is a difficult question, for the most part I love hangover much the same way I love 'Anchorman' I watched in religiously for months every couple of days and I’m pretty sure I wore it out, where HTTM I watch consistently and keeps the laughs and I see more and more stuff and jokes and is much the same bracket as Groundhog day, so round three and the bout goes to HTTM, 

I'm as surprised as you I though HANGOVER WOULD WIN! But I guess my winner is HOT TUB TIME MACHINE!

Top 11 list - My Favourite Directors

When it comes to directors I really have favourites and will watch films just because of the director even if it sounds like crap I will watch it to see if it is, mine ranges from comedy to drama but all are Auteur's in there own right, I call this top 11 because I always think there's more than 10 and I’m making a revolution out of it ha-ha so he’s my list...

Martin Scorsese - What’s else is there to say about a man who launched Robert De Niro into Stardom in my eyes that would have been enough to get him my list , but what he has done for the last 10 years with Leonardo Di Caprio is beyond reproach in my eyes , his soulful but sharp storytelling of the most mundane subjects for instance Taxi Driver , imagine that directed by Steven Spielberg it would have been awful , and historical subjects and making a period movie exciting and iconic as in Gangs of new York. 

Christopher Nolan - People always criticise my list for putting this guy to high, but ever since The following I have known this director has potential and I have grown up on his movies and honestly can not pick a best one because who can pick between perfection I always tangle between either the Prestige or Inception and that after hours of debate, but with twists and turns and charismatic characters and storylines that make M.Night shake in his boots. He has the ability to make a character interesting within an intrinsic storyline that can have you scratching you head but by the end you will be up clapping you hands they are red raw. 

Ridley Scott - Ridley Scott s one director that keeps surprising me with his diversity in film making , I love Alien and I hope the Reboot is as good , he has blade runner and you think o.k. he’s an amazing Film noir science fiction director , but then he brings out probably the best Historical movie ever in Gladiator ,  which is so good that I watch it every month and you think well he’s an amazing action movie director who pays attention to detail and an amazing storyteller but wait.... what does the amazing Ridley Scott do then he bring out A romantic comedy set in France ... sounds disastrous but a good year is amazing and my favourite romantic comedy with his long time collaborator Russell Crowe.  He comes up time and time again he is the most diverse and enchanting director in my list and will continue to be in the future.

James Cameron - A Director who makes a film every ten years you would say is lazy , but when you make a masterpiece it takes time and that’s what James Cameron is an Artist a complete controller from every aspect of filming editing it screams quality obviously his grand Crescendo has to be Avatar , but my god every film he’s ever done (apart from Piranha part two)  , Yes he making KICK ASS science fiction movies but also the Titanic not a personal favourite but you have congratulate the amazing look and feel of the film. To conclude that’s why he’s on the list and why he is on everyone’s list.

Luc Besson - This guy is the only foreign movie director and that because although there are many great foreign movie directors they have one or two movies tops to contribute but Luc Besson is the by far the best French director every !! And probably outside English and American actors the best Director much like James Cameron he has to main strengths he picks his projects with ultimate precision and produces and mentors other French directors to give them a fighting chance. Notable movies inc. Fifth Element / Leon; The Professional

Dennis Dugan -Don’t know much about the direct , but a long time collaborator of Adam Sandler and director of my favourite movies inc. Happy Gilmore and big daddy and hope he makes a good movie again soon after grown ups as his comeback hope he brings more out Sandler. 

Quieten tarantino - Everyone's Favourite director! The ultimate cult director, his use of dialogue and characters are unimaginable to anyone reading one of his scripts would think he’s a mad man, but he makes it work. Every actor worth he salt wants to work with him because they know it will be experience and will be a cult figure forever i.e. Brad Pitt. But what most impresses me is his unwillingness to bow to social pressure and make a blockbuster instead now he can make any film he wants ...inglorious bastards being the best example Nazi scalping Jews you can’t write that story with a sound mind.  

Ron Howard - This is my most surprising pick to myself because although I’ve known he’s a good director but looking at his IMDB list he’s had some mega hits and they include movies I watch over and over and over and I have no idea what all the films have in common I just known I like the mise en scene and actors he using to portray a story of well know significance as he’s being recently for instance his telling of the DA Vinci code and   The John Nash story in a beautiful mind and he sets the acts out with an amazingly simple direct approach to telling a story.

David Cronenberg - Possibly the only director on the list I know for a fact my mates or fellow film bloggers wont have on their own list , but Cronenberg is fast becoming my favourite director with films such as Eastern Promises and The fly and history of violence , he takes a story and swaps certain components to make it different than anyone else does , he cast unusual people in lead roles and differs between Genres , making his name in Psychopathic science-action with The Fly , the intensity of his camera work and dialogue makes you have catch your breath when a Monologue comes to end. He plays with your mind and you’re Heart and I hope he continues to do so.

David Fincher - Fincher is on here by popular demand , and I wanted to keep all the alien directors o my list and although I will completely disregard the social network , will count the fact he’s the maker of Seven , the dingle greatest crime thriller ever made really and the best twist in a movie ever so the film making is immaculate and his though process is like a Quarter back style approach to filmmaking whereas he does magical things on the screen but you know this comes from years and years of planning and research goes into it he deserves to be on my list for that point alone.. 

Guy Ritchie - An amazing English director and one that will keep getting better and better as the years role on ... being married to Madonna at one point is the only reason he is so down-lo on the list , that and he’s not made enough movies to warrant it , but enough to get on the list , his sharp tongued fast paced and very British direction is distinctive and independent to any other person on the list and his ability to identify a good English actor and ignite a failing actors passion for films as he’s done throughout his movies much like Christopher Nolan means he is aces in my book. Guy Ritchie is an Auteur in the plainest sense because I can tell a guy Ritchie movie a mile off and so can everyone else just look at Snatch and Lock Stock and say I am lying I dare you!
